Ewy Rosqvist was a noted rally driver with success around Europe, and she was recruited in April 1962 as the first female factory driver for Mercedes after previously driving for Volvo. In the 1962 edition of the competition, 285 crews started, three drivers died and in the end only 43 crews finished.
