Hungary has the crew and infrastructure for anything from a small interview unit to a full commercial or drama shoot. Budapest is the main production base, with equipment suppliers, studios and a wide range of city locations. Outside the capital, the country adds historic towns, estates, Lake Balaton, open countryside and roads that can give the same production a very different look.

Crew, equipment and studio work

Hungary has an experienced production community and several major studio options around Budapest. The National Film Institute’s Fót complex, for example, includes sound stages, backlots, workshops and a water tank. We match crew, equipment and facilities to the scale of the job rather than building a heavier setup than the production needs.

Locations in and beyond Budapest

Budapest offers Danube riverfronts, bridges, boulevards, residential streets, industrial areas and both historic and contemporary interiors. A location search can also extend to the Danube Bend, Lake Balaton, rural roads, vineyards, spa towns and smaller historic centres.

We scout against the brief and shooting schedule, with travel and unit moves included from the start. This helps establish which locations can sensibly share a shooting day and when a regional move needs more time.

Permits and public-space filming

Permission depends on who owns or manages the location. Public streets, roads, bridges, private buildings and heritage sites can follow different processes.

The National Film Institute’s Location Office publishes the current procedure for filming on public land. Its guidance currently states that applications should normally be filed at least five working days before filming, or two working days under the expedited procedure. Some locations, road closures and traffic arrangements require more preparation, so we check the current requirements before the schedule is confirmed.

Working across Hungary

A Budapest base can work well for nearby locations, while longer regional moves may require a second base or an additional travel day. We plan this once the location shortlist, unit size and equipment requirements are clear.
